Our Review of the Suunto X6M

The Suunto X6M features Stainless Steel casing and a black leather strap.

The Suunto X6 is specifically designed for Cross Sport applications - it features an Altimeter, Barometer, Thermometer, Compass, Watch and PC Downloading (via serial port - a USB adapter is sold separately).

Once your data is downloaded, you can review it with the included software, and upload it to SuuntoSports.com, where you can interact with fellow enthusiasts and organize / participate in virtual competitions (in other words: it took me 6 days to climb Everest, how long did it take you?). You can thereby compare your altitude and other results with other users.

Although the X6 body is plastic, the face has been upgraded to mineral glass, and the interface has been completely rewritten and operates similarly to a cell phone with graphical displays and a menu systems.

Suunto X6

I have had this watch for over 3 years, never once had a problem with it and i use it all the time. I am a wildland Firefighter and this watch has helped many a times. On the off season I snowboard and snowmobile all over the western U.S and it has been very nice tool to have.

SUUNTO GOOD AND BAD

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Allenhurst, GA Date: May 13, 2007
I have owned two Suunto's in the last three years. My first was the Advizor. I bought it before going to OIF 3, and 6 months into deployment, the watch filled with water in the shower. I managed to salvage it, but the backlight is out. I decided to buy a Vector. I wore it to California last month for training and it continuously fogged up. It tends to happen at least once a month. I am not sure if I am going to buy another Suunto. I am considering buying an X6.

Flawed case & button design

1
Reviewer: Anonymous , Iowa City, Iowa Date: April 10, 2007
I went through 3 replaced X6 watches in 4 years. The first had a known circuit flaw that fried the watch at first battery change. The 2nd & 3rd (which EMS replaced when Suunto would not) failed when exposed to rain, water (sea kayaking), and high humidity. The case fogged, circuitry failed, compass and alti were unreliable. Wanted to love it. Couldn't trust it in the field.

Comments from The Staff:

We contacted Suunto and Suunto advised that your retailer should replace this unit since it is within your 30 days. If you had purchased from us, that is what we would do.

Junk

1
Reviewer: Anonymous , Waitsfield, VT Date: February 01, 2007
I have had 2 Suunto watches. The first a Vector and it broke in the first month, electronics freaked out and then the light would not shut off. So I returned figuring that this was just a odd watch. So I then upgraded to the X6 this watch worked for 3 months ok. Then the altimeter would never work and the screen began to fog up. So I sent it in months later they sent it back, screen fogged even worse and altimeter was still broken. I know the altimeter needs to be reset to sea level often and checked to points of elevation along the way. But this watch would read 2000 ft when I was at sea level. Anyway I think they are junk and are hyped up more than they should be. Nothing I would trust my life to.

Comments from The Staff:

I'm really sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Suunto watch. We are just a retailer, we're not the manufacturer of the watch. You can reach the manufacturer at 800.543.9124. If the watch is covered under warranty, Suunto should repair it for you free of charge.

I've got the 2003 version. This is by far the best watch I've ever owned. Just one thing: go back to the green color.

Not Dependable

2
Reviewer: Anonymous , Upstate, NY Date: December 11, 2006
The watch stops working about every year and a half and needs to be sent in for repairs. I expect more from a $400 watch, not worth the expense.

The Watch is terrible

2
Reviewer: VC , Westchester, NY Date: November 04, 2006

I have had the X6 for a little less than a year and had the Advisor model for a few years before that. I have been disappointed with both watches. I have fogging on the inside of the crystal when the watch gets in direct sunlight. This makes it difficult to read the time/date in differecnt weather conditions. I had a similar problem with the Advisor and had to send it back more than once to try and get it fixed. I will not buy another Suunto watch.

Comments from the Staff: This is highly unusual, though we understand your frustration since this has happend twice. We applogize for your trouble. You can have your X6 refurbished and this should not happen again. One thing to note, as this may be the source of your problem, you can NOT press buttons when it is in water. The button gaskets are not water tight and doing so will allow moisture in. Sometime people push buttons inadvertantly while the watch is on their wrist, depending on where the watch sits or the size of their wrist. It can even happen in the shower. This may be the case with your watch, especially since the same thing has happened twice and we barely recieve comments stating similar problems.

my all around activity watch

Reviewer: manuel , newton, ma Date: October 30, 2006
first, its quite unfair to describe this X6 HR as a watch. its my multi purpose- multi activity genius watch!. from hiking/camping, running the trails to the gym, its proven itself useful and dependable. for watches like this, DEPENDABILITY is very important and you cant go wrong with X6. I prefer the black strap which I have only replaced after 3.8 years considering usage and abuse !

I love my Suunto X6... Best watch I've ever owned... If I could change one thing, I'd make the backlight function brighter.... I intend to keep getting Suunto products in the future
