Our Review of the Suunto Foot POD

Introducing the new, 2008 Suunto Foot POD, which is about half the weight and gets three times the battery life of its predecessor!

The Suunto Foot POD attaches to the laces of your shoes, and communicates with your favorite Suunto training wrist top computer via a wireless connection to determine and record your running speed and distance traveled. This compact device is light as a feather and won't even be noticeable while you go for your run. It tracks your pace, speed, and distance; and features an Autolap and Speed Alarm to indicate when you've recorded a lap and reached your training goals.

Compatible with the Suunto t3, Suunto t4, and Suunto t6

Suunto has also introduced a series of Training Packs that combine a Suunto t-series watch with the Suunto Foot POD in one package. The Suunto Running Pack includes a Suunto t3 training watch with a Foot POD; the Marathon Pack includes a Suunto t4 with the Foot POD and PC POD for wireless updating of your performance log on your PC; and the Duathlon Pack includes the Foot POD and the Road Bike POD for speed and distance monitoring while cycling.

Simple

Pairing it was easy. The use of a 2032 battery is great, long life. Right out of the packaging it was very accurate.

I love love love my Suunto Foot POD and watch. It is an awesome training tool. The POD is very accurate. It was easy to pair with my watch. I don't even notice the POD on my shoe. I chose the Suunto watch & POD over other products because of the awesome reviews. I hope that other runners will do the same!

Competent and Easy to Use

I have the Suunto Foot POD paired with a T3 and the combination works as well as I could reasonably expect. If you've figured out how to use any Suunto watch then the POD will be a snap. Read the instructions carefully, however, as you have to turn the POD upside down during the pairing process. A technically elegant solution to unintended pairing but not something a normal person would try if they lost the instructions. Once paired it's time to install the POD on a shoe. The POD includes a small piece of plastic that slips under the laces and then snaps around the bottom of the POD. It's very secure but if you rotate between two or more pairs of shoes in your training I wonder how long the plastic fingers that lock the plastic piece into the POD will last. The plastic looks very rugged so maybe this fear is unfounded. The POD takes a shake or a few steps to wake up if it's been undisturbed for more than 30 minutes and the wake up feature seems to have the right degree of sensitivity to prevent nuisance triggering but still turns on when expected. The POD is pretty accurate out of the blister pack but in case you need to adjust it, that can be done through the watch. Overall, no complaints. The POD does what you buy it to do. It's low maintenance and pretty accurate. The newest version (2008) is weathertight and is ready to go almost as soon as you get it. If you don't need geospecific information it beats the GPS pod for time-to-ready, doesn't need a view of a satellite constellation and is very rugged.

Good for running, not using an eliptical machine

Reviewer: Anonymous , Plano, Texas Date: February 10, 2008
I have a Foot POD and a t6. The Foot POD does a fine job measuring distance and speed while walking or running. It does not, however, do a good job measuring those things while using an eliptical machine. Also, the calibration process is a bit challenging.

Works well

Have used for a month, works well overall. Even after calibration sometimes the distance measurement is off a little bit during short walks but after an hr or so the distance measured by the device is very close to the actual distance covered.

foot pod

The biggest plus to the foot pod is being able to measure your distance anywhere you run. Not having to run the same route keeps training fun. Also, being able to instantly see your speed helps with your overall training. I highly recommend it to all levels of runners.

works great for me

does everything I expected it to do and is expandable to do more. love the foot pod. interface is not as intuitive as it could be, but it's starting to sink in after a month of use. the T3 is a great running companion and motivates me to train harder and more often. i might go for the pc pod some time for just that reason. i also might try the face protector; scratched the watch climbing - it doesn't have a protective rubber rim. i really like the simple no BS style of the watch.

Suunto Foot POD

It is at least as accurate as the Polar x625. I am very happy with its performance. I wouldn't give it 5 stars only because I haven't had it for very long yet.
